Our humanitarian projects and our local social action are committed to defending Life through health training, preserving dignity and defending humanity. Humanism must be coupled with action, and each and every one of us has a role to play in helping our neighbour.
Hardship and hope: how the IBSAR project is changing the lives of children in the camps of Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor in Syria
Imagine a child who avoids playing because they cannot see clearly… Vision problems, often neglected, directly compromise children’s learning, confidence and future. And as these children live in great hardship, with no medical follow-up or support, the consequences are even more terrible.
The IBSAR project is continuing after a temporary halt due to supply difficulties: the glasses ordered from the American company GlobalVision have finally arrived. Two sites, in Deir ez-Zor and Raqqa, are operational. In each, we have a team made up of a nurse, an optician and a logistician. Both teams are mobile and visit the camps. These are not structured camps but rather clusters of tent shelters scattered over a vast area, born of the mass displacement caused by the war. After the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, many are struggling to return to their destroyed homes, and families still live in extremely precarious conditions. Nearly 15,000 children are estimated to be living in these disorganised camps, without medical follow-up and particularly vulnerable.
The two teams examine every child. About 10% of these children need their eyesight corrected. Because of the delay the project had fallen into, it had to be extended by a month.
Gaza: we will never give up
Israeli bombing is intensifying, and access restrictions and the blockade are paralysing the delivery of medicines, plunging Gaza into a dramatic health emergency. Two of our health centres in Gaza were closed by an Israeli army evacuation order. On top of this distress come famine and malnutrition, which are hitting the population hard.
But our fight does not stop there. Our war is the war to save lives. And despite the bombs, despite the obstacles, we refuse to give in.
In June 2025, our teams carried out more than 6,000 consultations — about 2,000 more than the previous month. These figures are not just statistics: they are children, women and men being treated for acute and chronic conditions. Children receive essential vaccinations, treatment for childhood illnesses and specific support for malnutrition. Pregnant women receive antenatal and postnatal care. Mental health in these extremely traumatic circumstances is a major concern that we try to address.

The orphanage
The dehumanisation of Gaza’s population and the struggle for survival have severely damaged solidarity, and it is often every man for himself. No family can take in these orphaned children any more, which plunges them into dramatic isolation. This unacceptable reality calls for an urgent, lasting response.
Our priority project was to open a reception centre for these orphans, and this has now become a reality with the creation of “the Orphans’ House” in Nuseirat. In time, the centre will be able to take in around 200 children.
Already, 20 children have found refuge there. They are supported every day by attentive staff, receive regular meals and have a space to play and sleep in safety, in a suitable environment powered by solar panels.
The next step will be essential: providing psychosocial support and education so that they can rebuild their lives. In practical terms, six carers look after them day and night to meet their most immediate needs, while a team of dedicated staff runs educational and recreational activities to give them a more secure, structured setting.
Dr Fahima, with whom we are in touch almost daily, provides supervision, oversight and coordination, and sends us a detailed monthly administrative and financial report on our activities. At the same time, water distribution continues in the north and the south, under the responsibility of our project manager, Hamdi.
How funds are used
Our donors’ trust is essential, and we are committed to full transparency about how funds are used. Many of you ask us how the money is transferred and used: here is our method.
We work exclusively with local partners (Caritas, HCDA and Senabil) who are reliable and have long been known in Gaza. We have signed official agreements with them that define precisely how projects are carried out and funded: drinking water distribution, primary care centres and, more recently, the opening of the orphanage.
Funds are first sent to the headquarters of these partner organisations in the West Bank, then transferred through the traditional banking system (hawala) to local accounts, so that they can be used directly on the ground.
HuSoMe’s project managers are responsible for supervising and overseeing our projects on the ground. Made up of qualified staff, they manage these resources, decide how they are allocated to the different activities and make sure they are properly used. They monitor our partners, and regular administrative and financial reports are sent to us, which guarantees the traceability of funds.
Thanks to this system, donations are turned into concrete, visible and lasting action.
Towards autonomy in Ukraine
Since 2022, HuSoMe has been present in Ukraine, in partnership with La Chaîne de l’Espoir and Mehad, through the creation in Lviv, in the west of the country near the Polish border, of a centre training Ukrainian health staff to care for the war wounded — and also in Kharkiv, in the east of the country. We also run mobile training directly in the hospitals that receive civilian and military wounded from the combat zones. Today, HuSoMe Ukraine is becoming autonomous and developing its own projects!
In three years, we have trained 8,400 health workers, including 540 surgeons, in war medicine. We can count on a solid team. Our executive director, Mykola, is a physiotherapist, nurse anaesthetist and emergency medicine trainer. He has long humanitarian experience. Alongside him, our administrative and finance director, Nataliya, coordinates management with the support of an administrative assistant, a logistician and an accountant.
However, we face real financial difficulties, lacking funds for 2025/2026 because of a fall of more than 40% in French institutional humanitarian aid. This is forcing us to reduce the number of courses we can deliver, even as we are witnessing an upsurge in drone and missile attacks on Ukrainian cities.
Training remains an important act for saving lives. We absolutely must find new sources of funding by appealing to your generosity, but also to new private and institutional funders.

Collections
We cannot carry out our projects without funding, and for now it remains insufficient. That is why we appeal to all of you through various collections.
We should highlight the commitment of Tria, one of our volunteers, who works tirelessly in mosques and food markets to collect donations. On 15 August, after Friday prayers at the Woippy mosque, her collection raised €4,935!
Upcoming event
On Sunday 28 September at 10 am, join us for a solidarity march in support of the orphans of Gaza. The start will be from the Plan d’eau in Metz, for a marked route of about 3 km along the banks of the Moselle, at your own pace and in a friendly atmosphere.
On arrival at the Porte des Allemands and Les Frigos, you will be welcomed with music by the band “Banquette arrière” and can relax together around the refreshment stall.

New premises for HuSoMe at 10A rue des Tanneurs in Metz
We recently acquired new premises of 120 m². The electricity works and the water meter is on, but several jobs are still essential: renovating the floors, painting, cleaning, checking the electrical sockets, repairing two windows, etc.
These improvements are essential: they will guarantee the safety and durability of the premises and better working conditions for our teams. Every repair or improvement helps make these premises fully operational so that we can carry out our projects.
Here again, we are appealing to you: volunteers are our strength. Whether you are handy, an amateur painter, an electrician or simply keen to lend a hand, every gesture counts.

New volunteers at HuSoMe
Clémentine, a recent graduate of Sciences Po Paris, is working on a press kit to support fundraising for HuSoMe in Ukraine.
Simon is helping to renovate our new premises and manages the volunteers on site. He will create a small video/streaming studio. He handles supplies for Ukraine: checking and completing biomedical equipment and organising transport.
For Syria, he is in charge of identifying suppliers and manages orders of sample glasses for the Ibsar project.
