An organised famine: Gaza in its death throes
For more than two months, the humanitarian situation in Gaza has crossed a critical threshold. In a video published by Loopsider, the emergency and humanitarian doctor Raphaël Pitti forcefully denounces the massacre under way: “We are in a situation of famine.”
The blockade is total: no more electricity, no more fuel, no more medical supplies. According to him, more than 60% of hospital facilities have been destroyed, preventing health workers from carrying out their vital work.
Children, the first victims of the famine
Raphaël Pitti’s NGO currently runs five primary health centres in Gaza. The testimonies are chilling: severely malnourished children, measured by mid-upper arm circumference, arrive every day in a critical condition. The images collected show the scale of the humanitarian catastrophe.
“These children are in the streets with saucepans, looking for food, like starving birds,” the doctor warns.
An abandoned generation of orphans
The conflict has produced thousands of orphans, deprived of their parents and of any shelter. For lack of food, surviving families can no longer look after them. The system of solidarity is collapsing.
An urgent call for respect for international humanitarian law
Raphaël Pitti insists: as humanitarians, impartiality is a rule, but in the face of a humanitarian catastrophe on such a scale, silence would be a form of complicity.
“We need an active international response, not just condemnations.”
He points out that more than 60,000 dead and 100,000 wounded have already been recorded. Without an immediate response from the international community, the toll could rise further.
