Speaking out in the media to raise awareness of humanitarian issues
Professor Raphaël Pitti, president of the NGO HuSoMe (Humanité Solidarité Médecine), anaesthesiologist and intensive-care physician and specialist in emergency and disaster medicine, was recently a guest on the programme Le Grand Témoin en Région on RCF, presented by Thierry Georges.
During this in-depth interview, Raphaël Pitti shared his analysis of current international crises, while shedding valuable light on HuSoMe’s humanitarian missions with the most vulnerable populations.
An interview focused on today’s humanitarian challenges
Asked about the conflicts affecting several regions of the world today, Raphaël Pitti discussed respect for international law and the role of international institutions in the face of humanitarian crises.
The interview addressed in particular the dramatic situation of civilians in several conflict zones, and the human consequences of this violence for families, children and displaced people.
Throughout the conversation, HuSoMe’s president stressed the importance of preserving the fundamental principles of humanitarian law and protecting civilians facing war.
Gaza: HuSoMe’s daily commitment to children and families
A large part of the programme was devoted to HuSoMe’s work in Gaza.
Raphaël Pitti gave news of the orphanage supported by the association, which now houses 35 particularly vulnerable children. He explained the difficulties encountered from the very first weeks, notably with food, amid severe shortages and limited access to essential resources.
The interview also highlighted the ongoing challenges facing the population of Gaza: access to food, drinking water, health care and basic infrastructure.
In the face of these realities, HuSoMe continues its commitment alongside affected populations, with particular attention to children, displaced families and the most fragile.
HuSoMe mobilised in Lebanon and Sudan
Beyond Gaza, Raphaël Pitti recalled that HuSoMe’s work also extends to other areas affected by humanitarian crises.
The association supports local partners in Lebanon to fund the distribution of food parcels to displaced people. Similar support is provided in Sudan, in collaboration with local organisations.
This approach allows HuSoMe to act as close as possible to people’s needs while relying on field actors already working with the communities concerned.
HuSoMe’s priorities for 2026
During the programme, Raphaël Pitti also presented several priority projects for 2026.
Among them is support for widows living in Gaza with their children. The aim is to foster their economic independence by creating a scheme for acquiring professional equipment, such as sewing machines or equipment for small income-generating activities.
The association also wants to continue its efforts to improve families’ living conditions by supporting initiatives on access to water and better shelter.
A mobilisation made possible by solidarity
Through this appearance on RCF, Raphaël Pitti recalled that humanitarian action depends above all on collective mobilisation.
Given the scale of the needs, HuSoMe pursues its missions thanks to the support of citizens, volunteers and donors, who enable the association to act for the most vulnerable.
This media appearance is another opportunity to raise public awareness of realities on the ground and to recall the importance of international solidarity in the face of humanitarian crises.
