A new training centre specialising in military and disaster medicine has opened in Lviv, the result of collaboration between the French humanitarian medical organisation HuSoMe and Lviv’s Second Medical Association. It is located at 4 Rusovykh Street.
The project continues three years of cooperation between HuSoMe and the city of Lviv, now with a broader purpose: training not only civilian doctors but also military medicine instructors, able to work behind the lines as well as on the front line.
According to the municipal press, the centre offers nine specialised programmes, covering fields such as tactical medicine, surgery, stress and trauma management, paediatrics, pain management and medical evacuation. Each course lasts one to three days, and some twenty instructors, trained by French experts, teach them.
Professor Raphaël Pitti, president of HuSoMe, points out that his organisation has similar experience in Syria, where it had already worked in contexts of strikes on civilian infrastructure. That is why, from the start of the invasion, it mobilised to come to Ukraine.
Besides Lviv, HuSoMe carries out similar work in Kharkiv and also runs mobile courses in regions close to the front.
